Who We Represent

Sectors We Cover

GTPCWU organises members across three broad industry sectors, reflecting the Union's growth from its founding transport roots into petroleum, chemicals, and allied trades.

⛽

Petroleum and Chemicals

Covers workers across Ghana's downstream and midstream petroleum industry as well as industrial chemical processing and manufacturing. Member companies include the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL), Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST), Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Shell, Mobil, Total, Texaco, and Union Carbide.

It is this sector that gave the Union its full name — at the 2nd Quadrennial Delegates' Conference in 1978, delegates voted to add the word "Chemical" to the Union's title, creating the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers' Union as it is known today.

🚌

Transport and Logistics

The Union's founding sector, tracing back to the Post, Transport and Maritime Workers' Union of the 1940s. Covers public, freight, and air transport, plus logistics and haulage support. Member companies include the State Transport Corporation (STC), Ghana Airways / GhanAir, Metro Mass Transit (MMT), and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

The STC Division has played a defining role in the Union's history, including its 1972 breakaway attempt that led to the dissolution and reorganisation of the National Executive Committee.

🔗

Allied

Brings together allied and affiliate workplaces that fall outside the transport or petrochemical sectors but share the Union's collective bargaining umbrella — including pharmaceutical and other associated industrial companies such as GIHOC Pharmaceutical.

This sector reflects the Union's growth beyond its original transport mandate to serve Junior, Senior and Managerial staff across a broader range of industries.
